Love Him by Being Wise - Part 1
The excellent
wife, we have learned, is rarer than jewels, is trusted, does her husband good,
and is diligent. But she is more than all those things. She is also wise.
"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."
Pro. 31:26. An excellent wife is a wife of wisdom and kindness.
These two characteristics are not separate at all. James tells us that all true wisdom is kind.
"Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. . . . But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."
James 3:13, 17-18.
The comparison could not be more clear. When we speak of the excellent wife as a woman of wisdom and the teaching of kindness, we are speaking of the wisdom which is from above. James lists its characteristics:
1. Good conduct
2. Meekness
3. Purity
4. Peaceable
5. Gentle
6. Open to reason
7. Merciful
8. Good fruits
9. Impartial
10. Sincere
Of these words, how many describe you in your behavior in the home? If you are wise, James tells us, these things will prove your wisdom is of heaven.
Consider each of these words and phrases. Did you manifest good conduct this week? Were you peaceable and sincere? Were you full of good fruits?
What about next week?
Make up your mind that this is the week of your wisdom, where you will manifest (in your behavior) the wisdom in your heart.
